12U Black Head Coach

Alyssa Finn

Alyssa began playing volleyball for Salem Volleyball Club in middle school, played club throughout high school and was selected for the Columbia Empire Youth Regional Team twice.  While playing, she had the opportunity to compete against the Russian and Chinese Youth National teams. Alyssa was a three-year starter for Sprague High School as an outside hitter and libero and was selected for All-Valley League two of those seasons. She went on to play three seasons for Pacific University as a libero. Her coaching career began in 2009 with OJVA where she coached three seasons at the 14U level, along with several summer camps. She has coached 12U and 14U teams for Southside since 2009.


12U Black Assistant Coach

Shannon Friesen

Shannon began coaching at the high school level at McNary High School in 1997, where she coached various teams until 2004. Since then, she has coached for Mid-Valley Volleyball Club from 2006-2007, and as a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club from 2015-2017. She began coaching for Southside in 2016 and returned to McNary as Assistant Varsity Coach in 2017. When she is not coaching, Shannon enjoys hiking, camping, and riding ATV’s.


12U Black Head Coach

Casey Perez-Nitzsche

Casey played four years of high school varsity volleyball as a starter, four years of college volleyball, and has eight years of experience playing for a club. In addition, she was an assistant coach to a high school club team and has experience in middle school and high school clinics and camps. Casey recently got married and moved from Iowa to Oregon and is excited to start a new life in the Pacific Northwest! She loves to play the piano, sing, and play volleyball whenever she can.


14U Black Head Coach

Brittany Oakman

Brittany Oakman played varsity her freshman year in high school with a winning state tournament in 2006 and all-conference the following two years. She played as a DS/OH at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN Division 3, where they made it to the NCAA second round in 2011. Coach Oakman has coached 2 club teams in her hometown of Virginia, MN and has coached for Southside since 2016 when she moved to Oregon. When she is not coaching, Brittany enjoys her new puppy, traveling, hiking, and playing the ukulele.


14U Black Assistant Coach

Cherry Denos

Cherry began playing volleyball during middle school and high school, continuing to play recreationally through college. Fitness is Cherry’s passion and she loves teaching everything she can about good health and exercise. She is married with a three-year-old that she hopes will become a volleyball player (a very tall one at that …she will most likely be over six feet tall).


14U Orange Head Coach

Scott Kirchner

Coach Kirchner’s passion for volleyball began out of high school when he played for a Men’s B level team, competing in USVBA tournaments throughout the Pacific Northwest. Selected to compete on a Junior Development Team, he spent two years playing in Canada and the USA. He attended college at Oregon State University where he was a member of the OSU Men’s Club AA Team, competing in the Northwest Collegiate League.

Scott has a long history of coaching volleyball with experience as an assistant coach at Oregon State University and Central Oregon Community College and many years of volunteering throughout the state. He coached at North Salem High School for many years and has been with Southside since 2013.

Cammy Baker, Club Director/ Head Coach

Cammy Baker began her love of volleyball when she was a young girl spending hours passing the ball with her sister and taking the volleyball everywhere she went. Cammy grew up in Iowa and was a standout high school setter, playing all four years on varsity and for a local club team. Following high school, she played Division 3 volleyball at Hesston College in Kansas as the team’s Libero.

After college, Cammy married her husband, Drew, and began her coaching career at Western Christian School coaching both Middle School and High School levels. She put her coaching on hold to continue to grow her family but continued to play in an adult coed league in Salem.  

Cammy began coaching again in 2015 for Central Youth Sports and Central Youth 14U club volleyball team. She loves sharing her passion for volleyball with other young girls, training them to be players with a solid work ethic, respectful of parents, coaches, and teammates, and instilling a sense of pride and integrity in all they do on and off the court.


16U Assistant Coach

Riley Mahoney

Coach Mahoney has played volleyball for nine years on a number of teams. She played through middle school, high school, and also at Western Oregon University on rec teams. She played club volleyball during high school and has also coached club for three years. Riley works in the fitness industry and is a certified group exercise instructor. Fitness is a big hobby for her and when she is not at work you will find her watching her younger sister play volleyball and soccer or her younger brother play football and lacrosse.


16U Head Coach

Marysia Gilyard

Coach Gilyard began playing volleyball in middle school for Salem Volleyball Club. She went on to play for South Salem High School and was part of the undefeated Valley League Champion team in 2003. In 2006, she began coaching a Salem Volleyball Underground 12U team, and in 2009 was the Assistant Coach for South Salem High School’s freshman team. She has been coaching for Southside since 2015 and strives to make each player a better athlete, giving them a better understanding of the game of volleyball. Marysia spends her free time with her seven-year-old daughter and her dog. She loves baking cookies and lasagna, and also enjoys spending time with family and friends.


16U Assistant Coach

Jacque Elliott

Jacque began playing volleyball in the fifth grade and went on to play four years of high school and club as a middle blocker. During college, she coached at Beaverton High School and began coaching for Southside in 2017. Jacque works in the fitness industry and enjoys working out and leading others in group fitness. While she still loves to play volleyball recreationally, most of her time is spent watching her three kids participate in football, baseball, volleyball, and ballet.


16U Head Coach

Jeanette Kirchner

Jeanette played volleyball at Oregon State University and then for one summer in Japan. After returning to the states, she coached JV at South Salem High School while still playing club with OSU Alumni. She has also coached at Sprague and North High School. Her latest coaching assignment was at West Salem High School, where she was the head JV coach for six years. In her free time, she loves to knit, watch movies, and make leather purses.

Alexis Stewart

Alexis’ love for volleyball started in 7th grade. Shortly after, she began playing club volleyball. She played all four years of high school. Alexis has been coaching for Southside since 2016 and is currently an assistant coach for the 14U team. When she is not coaching, Alexis plays city league volleyball and is also a full-time college student.


18U Head Coach

Todd Hakman

Coach Hakman began playing volleyball in middle school in Southern California, where he quickly joined a local club team. He played four years of varsity as a setter and opposite. After coaching varsity volleyball in San Diego, Todd took a hiatus from the sport, until returning earlier this year to play in local leagues and regional tournaments. With a B.S. in Mathematics, Todd works locally as a tutor. He also enjoys playing sports, watching the Lakers, playing board games, working on his computer, and studying foreign languages.
